(Yun. diploos: iki kat; haploos: basit) Mayoz sonucunda, gametleri oluşturan haploit gametofitleri meydana getiren bir organizma. Fertilizasyonla, mayozun meydana geldiği diploit bir sporofit oluşur. Böylece diploit ve haploit generasyonlar birbirini izler.
