İskitler (Skythler, Sakalar), MÖ 8. yüzyıl MÖ 3. yüzyıl arasında Avrupa'nın doğusu (Kırım ve Pontik Bozkırlar) ile Orta Asya'da, Tanrı Dağları ve Fergana Vadisi'ni de içine alan bölgelerde yaşamış göçebe halktır. İskitler için Grek kaynaklarında "Skythai", Asur kaynaklarında "Aşguzai", Pers kaynaklarında "Saka" ve Çin kaynaklarında "Sai" tabirleri kullanılmaktadır.Balaban, Ayhan. İran dili konuştuklarına ait teori diğer kaynaklardaki İskitçe sözlükler üzerinden yapılmış; arkeoloji, antropoloji ve diğer bilim dalları ile desteklenmemiştir. Bu teori linguistik üzerine kuruludur. Fakat o konuda da yeterli bilimselliğe sahip değildir. İskitlerin İran dili iddiasındaki yazarlar derledikleri İskitçe kelimelerin ancak üçte birini İran dili ile açıklayabilmektedirler.
